Monerokon3 is happening in Prague from 23–25 June 2023, after successful editions in Denver and Lisbon in 2019 and 2022, respectively. Privacy advocates, cypherpunks, scientists, Crypto enthusiasts, students, and anarcho-capitalists, all over the world will gather for this event.

Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. The city is known for its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture.

Its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it’s easy to see why. The city’s skyline is dominated by Prague Castle, one of the largest ancient castles in the world, while its winding streets are lined with beautiful baroque and Gothic buildings.

The Vltava River flows through the city, providing a picturesque backdrop for the many bridges that connect its two halves. Prague is also renowned for its food, drink, and traditional cuisine featuring hearty dishes such as goulash, schnitzel, dumplings, and famous beer brands like Pilsner Urquell and Budweiser Budvar.

The city is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with bars, clubs, and live music venues catering to all tastes. Overall, Prague is a city that offers something for everyone, whether you’re interested in history, culture, food, drink, or simply soaking up the atmosphere of this beautiful city.

Airport Information

Prague Airport, also known as Václav Havel Airport, is the only international airport serving Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic. Located approximately 17 kilometers northwest of the city center, it has two main passenger terminals — Terminals 1 and 2.

Terminal 1 mainly serves flights to and from non-Schengen countries, while Terminal 2 serves flights to and from Schengen countries. The airport has a wide range of facilities, including shops, restaurants, cafes, duty-free stores, currency exchange offices, ATMs, lounges, and free Wi-Fi throughout the terminals.

Prague Airport is the largest airport in the Czech Republic and one of the busiest airports in Central Europe, serving over 17 million passengers annually. It offers connections to numerous destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America and is a hub for Czech Airlines.

It is roughly a 28-minute drive to the venue of the conference at Paralelni Polis.

Participants have many transport options to get to their hotel and the conference venue.

Local Travel

Prague has an efficient and affordable public transport system. MoneroKon participants can use trams, buses, and the metro to travel around the city.

You can purchase tickets from vending machines or newsstands with a credit card. It is highly recommended that you buy several 30 or 60 minute tickets upon arriving Prague for use on public transportation. Undercover public transportation inspectors are known to do random checks for tickets and fines for riding without a validated ticket are quite high (something like 60 EUR).

You can check out the fares for cashless payment here and public transport timetables here.

Paralelní Polis is located in Prague 7, in the Holešovice district. If you are taking the tram, take line 6 or 14 and get off the Dělnická stop.

Besides the tram, there are several ride-sharing apps, like Uber or Bolt. The cost from Paralelni Polis to Old Town Square is about 200 CZK (8,50 EUR).

In theory, it is possible to walk from Holešovice district to Old Town (3.5 km, ~45 minutes), but the walk is not that scenic (lots of industrial buildings) and finding your way around the bridge crossing/highway sections could be a little confusing if this is your first time in Prague.

Personal Security

Pickpockets are rampant in Prague, in particular in tourist hotspots and on public transportation. Do not carry a large amount of cash or high value items with you. Ideally, you should be traveling with a cheap burner phone and used laptop with as minimal data on it as possible. Keep important documents and credit cards in a hidden RFID protected money belt. If your hotel has a safe box, use it.
